About

Finn Nilson is an academic, writer and Professor of Risk Management and Societal Safety, currently at Lund University. Originally from the UK, he has spent the past twenty-five years in Sweden pursuing an academic career. He is also writing his first non-fiction book.

His work explores the relationship between how risk is understood at the societal level and how it is experienced by individuals. This relationship shapes how we perceive and respond to threats, the degree of control we believe we have over the future, and our confidence in predicting outcomes.

Finn’s academic background is interdisciplinary, spanning a wide range of subjects and disciplines. He began his career in the medical sciences before moving across both technical and social science faculties at several universities. While far from a conventional career path, it has allowed him to approach risk not only as a technical or statistical problem, but also as a social, psychological and cultural phenomenon – one that affects all of us every day.
